PAY-011 Nobleman/Noblewoman/s Shirt
This pattern lets you create the high-collared
undergarment (sometimes called a partlet) worn by both men and women of the
upperclass during the Elizabethan era. This garment was worn under bodices
and doublets alike and differed principally in length: women wearing them
longer, and men generally shorter so the bottom could tuck into the
breeches. The two length options included are just below the hips, or just
above the knee, but you may lengthen or shorten as you wish.
The stand-up collar has either a box-pleated frill or may be made with a lace
edging. The sleeve is box-pleated onto the cuff, which may be made with or
without a pleated frill. You may make the front fully open to spread apart
under your bodice for the inverted "V" look, or stitch it partially closed
shirt-style. Neck and cuffs may tie, button or hook closed.
Easy to make.
